China is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion.
The first confirmed case of Zika virus in China was confirmed on 10 February 2016. A 34-year-old man from Ganxian county in the eastern province of Jiangxi, who has traveled to Venezuela in South America, contracted the virus. The man worked in Dongguan, a manufacturing city in the neighboring southern province of Guangdong. The Chinese health authorities are not particularly worried about Zika virus in China because of cold weather in the country. There is a risk of Zika virus in China only if it was introduced to Hong Kong.
