Zika virus in Kenya

Kenya is a country in Africa. Its capital and largest city is Nairobi. Kenya is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east. Approximately 45 million people live in Kenya as on July 2014.

There are two medical facilities to test Zika virus in Kenya - Kenya Medical Research Institute and Pathologists Lancet laboratories. Lancet Kenya is the largest medical laboratory service provider in the region and is headquartered in South Africa. PCR test at Lancet can confirm the presence of Zika virus and is only recommended for people who have returned from areas affected by Zika virus within the past two weeks. The results will be available within two to three days.
