Zika virus in Slovakia

Slovakia is a country in Central Europe. It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. Slovakia's territory spans about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi) and is mostly mountainous. The population is over 5 million and comprises mostly ethnic Slovaks.

The first case of Zika virus in Slovakia is announced on March 2, 2016. A woman who has recently returned from South America is diagnosed with the virus. The patient was hospitalized at Presov in eastern Slovakia. Health Minister Viliam Cislak who announced the case has said that the patient is in good health and does not require further hospitalization.
